Tiburcio Vasquez Health Center Continues to Advocate for Healthy Eating Habits

Our community health centers (CHCs) play a crucial role in promoting healthy eating habits within our underserved communities. By working with patients and communities through food-related workshops and classes, CHCs can help address nutrition-related health issues.

Throughout the year Tiburcio Vasquez Health Center’s (TVHC) Community Outreach and Advocacy (COA) department has hosted Cooking Matters classes for their Promotoras to help support the community with nutritious food recipes to share.

In September TVHC took part in the Nakamura Heart Health Fair hosted by Washington Hospital Healthcare System – this time they focused on one recipe as part of their cooking demonstration – a nutritious quinoa brunch bowl.

The goal of this demonstration was to show how easy, affordable, and quick it can be to prepare healthy meals at home. TVHC Promotoras Silvia and Beatriz supported by preparing ingredients and helping to create an enjoyable, hands-on experience for everyone involved.

The response from attendees was overwhelmingly positive. Participants appreciated the hands-on approach and the simplicity of the recipes, which they felt empowered to recreate in their own kitchens. The interactive nature of the presentation kept everyone engaged, and many left with new skills and ideas for maintaining a healthy diet.

Not only did the cooking demonstration highlight the importance of nutritious eating, but it also fostered a sense of community through the shared experience of learning and cooking together.
