La Clínica Breaks Ground on New Mix-Use Site & Hosts Governor Newsom At A Vaccine Clinic

Additional Affordable Housing Comes to East Oakland with Groundbreaking of Transformative Mixed-Use Project

As part of the “Better Neighborhoods, Same Neighbors” initiative, a mix-use project consisting of private, public, and nonprofit organizations recently came together to break ground on 95th and International Boulevard in Oakland. This project will offer deeply affordable living units with member community health center La Clínica operating a health center on the ground floor.

“This project demonstrates the tenacity and creativity that drives Oaklanders to find solutions to community needs through partnerships,” said Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf. “Led by the community for the community, it embodies the ‘Better Neighborhoods, Same Neighbors’ theme of our winning TCC grant proposal that will help enact lasting transformation in East Oakland over the next few years.”

Elected Officials Visit La Clínica’s COVID Vaccine Clinic in Oakland

On August 31, Governor Gavin Newsom, Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, and Alameda County Supervisor Wilma Chan visited La Clínica’s COVID testing and vaccination site in Oakland’s Fruitvale neighborhood.

The elected officials joined La Clínica CEO Jane García for a tour of the site and spoke to staff to learn about their work to ensure essential COVID services were accessible to all. The Governor spoke to patients about what it meant to them to receive the COVID vaccine. Afterwards, Jane joined the elected officials in their press conference to commend community members who’ve already received their vaccine in Oakland and across the state, as well as encourage more folks to get the shot.
