California Officials visit LifeLong’s to see AmeriCorps Members in Action

Josh Fryday, California’s Chief Service Officer and a member of Gov. Gavin Newsom’s Cabinet, and State Senator Nancy Skinner, visited LifeLong Medical Care’s West Berkeley Family Practice outdoor vaccination site to see LifeLong’s AmeriCorps Health Fellows in action. LifeLong’s AmeriCorps Health Fellows are observing patients at all its vaccination sites for the required 15-minutes after vaccination, and are using that time for outreach to improve health outcomes related to hypertension, colon cancer and diabetes.

I am grateful to have the help of our AmeriCorps Members this year to help with our COVID vaccination efforts

Beginning March 1st, LifeLong will be allocated additional vaccine doses directly from the Federal Government as part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s efforts to ensure that the nation’s hardest hit populations are receiving the vaccine. LifeLong’s AmeriCorps program fosters healthy communities by improving access to primary and preventative care services for our medically underserved communities while developing the health care workforce of tomorrow. LifeLong’s Deputy Chief of Clinical Operations, Kate Lewis, began her career in public health as an AmeriCorps Member with LifeLong, “One of the most amazing experiences of being an AmeriCorps Member is that you get to be on the front line of extremely important movements in the medical field. My term of service in 2005 shaped my career and helped me to see where the needs really lie in our communities. I am grateful to have the help of our AmeriCorps Members this year to help with our COVID vaccination efforts!”
