Asian health Services continues to be a leader in their community

Park Renaming: Asian Health Services (AHS) co-led the renaming event of local park (Madison Park) in Oakland to Wilma Chan Park in honor of beloved Alameda County Board Supervisor, Wilma Chan, who passed away one year ago. AHS had been planning this event for months with the offices of Oakland City Council President Nikki Fortunato Bas and Alameda County Supervisor Dave Brown, District 3. AHS was instrumental in gathering signatures for the petition and getting the city council to vote unanimously to approve this name change. In addition, the AHS staff have been working with the city of Oakland to put up the signage in different languages and add night lights at the park in record time for the event. Many spoke briefly at the event to honor the late Supervisor, including city and county elected officials, artists, and community leaders. Over 12 other community-based organizations had booths at the events. Over 100 attendees showed up at the event.

Patient Leadership Committee: Asian Health Services’ Community Services team held its first Patient Leadership Committee (PLC) in-person meeting since the pandemic for all six Asian languages (Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Khmer, Korean, Tagalog). In preparation for the mid-term elections, the PLC’s discussed voting engagement, voter eligibility, special circumstances to consider, and important dates to remember.

Altogether, more than 60 PLC members came together to engage in this discussion.
